The first task was complete as Bella scribbled on a piece of paper, “I’m with Alice. Edward is in trouble. You can ground me when I get back. I know it’s a bad time. So sorry. Love you so much. Bella.” pg 420 Charlie had been taken care of by this letter, and Jacob had promised to take care of him in Bella’s absence. All the arrangements for the trip were made. Alice had gotten a flight booked for both her and Bella, they found Bella’s passport and ID, and after throwing some clothes in a suitcase, they were ready to leave. Bella had promised Jacob she would explain everything later, and she told him how sorry she really was for leaving him. Thankfully, Jacob understood and didn’t hold a grudge against her, even though in the back of his head he knew things wouldn’t be the same once she got back.
“We made our flight with seconds to spare, and then the true torture began. The plane sat idle on the tarmac while the flight attendants strolled–so casually–up and down the aisle, patting bags in the overhead compartments to make sure everything fit….Alice’s hand was hard on my shoulder, holding me in my seat while I bounced anxiously up and down.”
The way Bella is so anxious to get to Italy reminds me of when I take trips. Whenever I reach the terminal I am ready to go. I get anxious and jumpy about being able to fly someplace else that is untouched by my presence. It is like my life doesn’t exist yet in the new destination, because I am not known there, I have no history there. I love taking trips, and I feel the same emotions that Bella feels, except in an anxious excited way, not an anxious worried way.

Q2 BLOG 8
While Bella is caught up in her own drama with Jacob, Charlie is grieving over a lost friend. A few days ago Charlie found one of his oldest friends dead. His name was Harry Clearwater. The day of the funeral, Charlie was gone paying his last visit to the body of his friend, while Bella was at home with Jacob. Confusion was sprung right after a 30 second phone call between Jacob and Edward. Edward has somehow thought that Bella was dead. Because vampires aren’t able to see werewolves, when Alice saw Bella cliff jumping, she thought Bella was committing suicide. Alice quickly told Edward and that was when he called and believed Charlie was at Bella’s funeral.
“I don’t think he ever planned to outlive you by long,” Alice said quietly. pg 418 that sparked Bella’s grave of memories with Edward when he told her “Well, I wasn’t going to live without you… But I wasn’t sure how to do it…I knew Emmett and Jasper would never help…so I was thinking maybe I would go to Italy and do something to provoke the Volturi…You don’t irritate them. Not unless you want to die.” pg 418
And so the adventure in this book commenced. Alice and Bella would have to travel to Italy to stop Edward from doing anything to provoke the Volturi. The only other obstacles in the way were the fact that Bella would have to find Edward before he did something stupid, she’d have to somehow get permission to go to Italy from Charlie, and she’d have to explain all of this mess to Jacob.

Q2 BLOG 7
Just a recap of what is happening. Edward is gone. He left Bella behind in Forks, because he thought it would be best. He believed that by leaving her behind with no reminders of himself, he would make her life so much easier. She would be able to live a normal human life and would not be threatened by him being in love with her. Bella took this news horribly. She was empty. She did nothing just up until Jacob came back into her life.
Because Edward left, Bella has been spending most of her time with Jacob Black, from the Quileute tribe. Bella and Jacob have a history together, because every time she would come up to Forks in the summers, Jacob would always be the one she would hang out with. This year however, when she first arrived in Forks, she and Jacob weren't as close as they used to be. Once she finally understood why Jacob avoided her when Edward was around, she felt sorry for him. He wasn’t avoiding Bella, but rather Edward.
Just like Edward and the rest of the Cullens’ are vampires, Jacob and all of the young males in the tribe are werewolves. And unfortunately the vampires and the werewolves don’t necessarily get along.
However since Edward left Bella, Jacob steps in to try and fill Edward’s place. He loves Bella just as much as Edward does except Bella loves Edward in a deep way and she loves Jacob as a friend. She says, "In so many real ways, I do love him. He was my comfort, my safe harbor." pg 411 Bella loves both of the boys, except that won’t be possible because of what they are. She will be forced to choose a side and is struggling in doing so.

“The clouds pushed down with an invisible weight that kept the claustrophobia from easing” (354).
Ever feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? It can happen. Pressure just keeps building up and you can’t seem to let it ease off. You feel so inferior and everything is collapsing down on you simultaneously. The clouds above in the sky usually are your escape, but not this time. Everything is turning against you and you keep getting smaller and forgotten as a person. So you decide to roll up into a tiny ball. Grasping your arms around your legs for the little comfort it can offer. You listen to your breathing to make sure you keep using your lungs. To make sure you are still there. You command yourself to stay aware and suck in the oxygen in and slowly let it release. Your tight grip makes your fingers go numb and suddenly you feel a sharp pain in your stomach. It aches and you start to mourn for it to stop. At least go numb again. Hiding like it previously was before you noticed it. You long for a loved one to come and comfort you with all of your troubles, but would feel too guilty to let them take care of you. You wish you could disappear, so no one would have to deal with you and your unresolved issues. The pressure is too much and it gets to your head. You feel light headed and that’s when the savior appears. Out of nowhere you are relieved. The pain evaporates with the clouds in the sky. Ever feel this way?

Q2 BLOG 5
I had finished the book, Speak a few weeks ago, and don't have much else to say about the book, therefore I will now blog about another book I am reading. I am reading the sequel to the book Twilight written by Stephenie Meyer. The book is called New Moon.
Bella is still the main character with Edward by her side. Edward is a vampire who looks after Bella, trying to keep her out of trouble because she is mortal and he is not. They are in love and while Bella wishes to become a vampire like Edward, Edward wants Bella to live her teenage years as a human, because Edward believes a soul becomes lost once you turn into a vampire. Because Edward thinks by him loving Bella, he has done too much damage to Bella's life, he decides to leave Forks, and flee to somewhere else with his family. The abrupt way of telling Bella the news left her shocked, as she stumbled through the forest trying to catch up with Edward. Edward had always been there for her, and she thought they would be together forever. She shuddered when Edward told her "It will be as if I never existed" (pg 71). Edward had wanted a clean break, thinking it would be easier for Bella to handle. When Edward had left, he took with him pictures of him, his love, and security that always brought comfort to Bella. Edward believed “Time heals all wounds for your kind” (pg 72). None the less, it was hard for Bella living without Edward, and Bella began to lose herself, creating a distance with everyone else left in her life.

RIGHT OF PRIVACY
Should schools be able to intervene into off-campus activities posted on facebook?
Smith, Mary Lynn. “Facebook photos land Eden Prarie kids in trouble.” StarTribune 9 Jan. 2008 7 Dec. 2008 http://www.startribune.com/templates/Print_This_Story?sid=13549646.
The point of view from this article is basically multiple interviews of students who were involved in the Eden Prairie drinking incident last year. Posted on facebook were photos taken of these students either holding alcohol, near a friend with alcohol or in a picture with alcohol in the background. More than 100 students were suspended and many were not allowed to participate into sports for a while or had their captainship taken away from them. These pictures ruined most of the athletes’ future. During the interviews, several of the kids said that “… it’s a huge invasion of privacy.” Some believed that facebook should be private, while few students stood up and voiced shamelessly on their fellow classmates. The few students who countered many believe that it was stupid for the other classmates to post photos of themselves or others drinking, and they deserve the punishments they got.
Boslet, Mark. “Internet Users Give Mixed Signals on Privacy Concerns.” San Jose Mercury News (MCT) SIRS Researcher. SIRS Knowledge Source . Edina High School. 4 Mar. 2008 http://sks.sirs.com/.
This article brings up the issue of internet privacy. The past events where companies such as Beacon are able to grab hold of people’s background due to the internet, hasn’t changed people’s actions. The population asks for internet safety, but doesn’t prevent themselves as much as possible to avoid a situation crossing the line for their privacy on the internet. The privacy advocates say programs like Beacon share their information about customers via facebook, by sharing it with their friends. In answer to the unhappy public, the Federal Trade Commission has released proposed guidelines requiring web sites to allow consumers to choose whether information about them is collected. Most companies are furious, but the consumers seem to be happier. This new rule would act similar to the do not call registry for blocking telemarketing calls. It would ensure a little more privacy on the internet, moving one step forward at a time.

Q2 BLOG 4
Melinda’s character is continuing to develop with the help of an old friend. She redevelops her communication skills and keeps trying to renter the social world. Therefore she starts occasional small talk with Ivy, one of her ex-best friends and realizes how much she misses her comfort. Ivy was the nicest one in the old group of friends and would always listen to everyone. She was also the most artistic, so she was able to help Melinda with her tree project she has to complete in art class.
There was one afternoon at a park with Ivy which commenced the mending of Melinda’s ability to trust. She aided Melinda to express her feelings in her trees. With Ivy’s help, she was able to start believing in herself more often, and became more confident. The way Ivy helped Melinda was a simple gesture, yet without it Melinda might not have started to heal. Ivy merely showed Melinda how to draw tree branches so she wouldn’t have to keep starting over with a thousand new pieces of paper, when her tree was in fact very artistic. Ivy led Melinda to liking her own artwork and appreciating her artistic talent, which was different and involved many emotions by the way the branches would sag, or the colors of the leaves would change. With Ivy’s compliments and approval of Melinda’s artwork, she started to like herself again and hung up some of her artwork in her storage closet where she could gaze at it occasionally. Ivy’s influence was the pivot in Melinda’s life that ensured the rebuilding of Melinda.

Q2 BLOG 3
Melinda is not a complex character; she seems very easy to understand. Because she is recovering from a disaster at a party in the summer that destroyed her social status, she is very sad and lonely. Ever since she called the police at that summer party, she has been very antisocial. She has been antisocial because she thinks all the kids hater her, which most unfortunately do. But in ninth grade when she enters high school, she receives some company by a girl named Heather. Heather talks to Melinda for two reasons. The first reason is because she also doesn’t have any friends like Melinda, but it’s because she’s new. The second reason is because she wants to fit in the school, and has to start off of somewhere. She decides to use Melinda to help her understand the school better and to figure out where she can fit in. Melinda only agrees to tolerate with Heather because she doesn’t want to show the world how lonely she is. Melinda doesn’t even bother with trying to understand Heather as a person, because even though Heather is desperately trying to find her group, she tramples on Melinda once she knows why everyone hates Melinda. Heather doesn’t want to be associated with Melinda, and like a true enemy resembling all of the rest of the kids Heather pretends she doesn’t know Melinda in front of others. Melinda understands Heather is just like all of the other kids who don’t know Melinda’s story and she thinks to herself if she will always be this lonely.

Q2 BLOG 2
I have changed my book to “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson. It is about a girl trying to fix her reputation after what happened last summer at a party. Her reputation wasn't a bad one to the parents and teachers around her, but rather to the entire student body. She was the one who had called the cops at that party getting plenty of people arrested for various reasons I won't state.
The style that Anderson writes with is very simple and to the point. It reminds me somewhat of McCarthy but she doesn't make her sentences long. They are short. Throughout the story she hops around different classes that the main character has during the day. She changes scenes abruptly and I like that difference that a lot of other authors choose not to use. Instead other authors such as McCarthy pay much attention to minor details and make sure the story flow flawlessly.
The details Anderson gets into are not quite as concise as McCarthy, but rather the details grasp the general idea of what she is trying to tell. For example Anderson writes “Last year, our clan all dressed up as witches. We went to Ivy’s house because she and her older sister had theatrical makeup” (pg40). She utilizes this use of bland words and integrates them into comments Melinda, the main character, would make.
In my opinion I enjoy a change in the book I’m reading because after reading “All the Pretty Horses” by Cormac McCarthy I enjoy simple sentences sometimes using sarcasm. I enjoy it because I can relate to the narrator, which is Melinda. She is a basic teenage girl not really committed to any clique as of right now and all she wants to do is find out who she truly is.

Q2 BLOG 1
The novel I chose to read for this quarter 2 blog is called “A Million Little Pieces” written by James Frey. The book is about James Frey when he was 23 years old. By that age, he had been an alcoholic for 10 years and a crack addict for 3 years. He was forced to change his life around, because if he didn’t he would die before the age of 24. That is why later, his parents check him into a rehab center for six strenuous weeks.
James is a very confused guy struggling to be as normal as he can be even with the drugs and the alcohol. James must face the other direction when he tells his parents, “I just wanted to say thanks. For picking me up” (pg 6). He cannot look his family in the eyes, because he doesn’t give them the love and appreciation they deserve from a child. His parents flew all the way back from Tokyo, Japan to Chicago where they picked up James from the airport, to drive him up north to the cabin. He is a very lucky person considering the only reason why his parents were there is because of his roommate back from where he was, that called them in concern for James’ health. As bad as James’ condition is, he is extremely fortunate to have people around him that care and feel sorry for him; even though he doesn’t necessarily always believe that they should care for him.

Moving on from last blog, Edward has decided it would be in the better interest for him and his family to move on with their lives. This meaning, they would all move away from Forks, making life for Bella seem as if he and his family never existed.
When Edward told this to Bella, she didn't take it well at all. They were in a clearing in the woods, and Bella had tried to chase after Edward as soon as he took off, after briefly explaining why they had to go.
His excuses did not convince Bella however. The first excuse was that it was time to finally leave Forks because of his family's age in the town. Carlisle couldn't keep on passing for a 33 year old, and the residents of the town thought that Rosalie and Emmet were off to college somewhere. His second reason for their sudden departure, hit Bella like a big yellow bus. He said to her that they had grown to close and she would be better off if he left now. It had already been too long of a relationship between them, and Edward couldn't allow it to go any farther.
Bella was in the state of shock when Edward kissed her on her forehead, and made her promise to be safe, and aim to stay out of trouble. She was so caught up in the moment that she ran after him as he disappeared, then just kept running. She finally laid down on the ground, but did not move for 18 hours. After 18 hours of staring and thinking of nothing, she heard voices. They were shouting her name, and they had come to bring her home to Charlie.

I have written enough about Twilight, so therefore I am moving on to the book called New Moon. It is the second book in the series.Bella is celebrating her 18th birthday, but is not a big fan of parties. She has convinced Edward not to buy her something too expensive, and told Alice, Edward's sister, not to throw a big party. She is a modest person, who doesn't like to be the center of attention for two reasons. The first one being that she gets embarrassed really easily and secondly, she is naturally a very clumsy person. Therefore she is a disaster waiting to happen.
The day finally arrives, and it goes just as Bella had planned. She wasn't in the most joyous mood, but it resembled a normal day, which she enjoyed. She had her everyday routine, where Edward would pick her up in the morning, he would drive to school, and then he would walk her to class. She sat at her usual lunch table, with Edward across from her, Alice to her right, and Jessica to her left. She ate her lunch while Edward and Alice would sit watching her nibble at her food.
The day was great up until that night. Edward came to pick her up to go over to his house to celebrate. When they got there, Alice gave Bella her presents from everyone, and she started to open them. The first one was a new stereo for her car. She was delighted, knowing that now Edward would be off her back of getting a whole new car. As she reached for the card to the second gift, she got a paper cut. This was beyond horrible. In that one split second, Edward leaped in front of Bella teeth, sharp as nails hinted in the direction of Jasper, who was lunging at Bella’s red finger. Unfortunately Edward had pulled Bella to the ground after knocking over a glass vase, causing more blood to be scented into the vampire’s nostrils. As usual Carlisle had to fix the problem, by inserting five stitches into Bella’s arm. Then Edward drove Bella home.

Bella and Edward have started to get more serious about their relationship, announcing they are now an official couple. Edward has met Bella's dad, but Bella has not yet officially met Edwards’s family, besides observing his graceful siblings at lunch or in the hall. As a result, one day Edward tells Bella he will be taking her out to have lunch with his family. His family is very welcoming to Bella, and tries their best to act like a normal human family should. The get together goes very well until they decide to go play some baseball.
There are some other vampires traveling through the area and they want to join in the game, but as soon as they get to the field, they smell Bella’s blood and that she is a human. He then decides Bella will be his next victim. This scares the Cullen family and they now know they have to get Bella out of the state. She travels to Phoenix Arizona, her old hometown. The Cullen family is then forced to follow her and build a plan around how to keep her safe, knowing now that the vampire after her is a tracker. Being a tracker means that he won’t give up and he lives for challenges such as this one, where he will have to fight for her blood along the way.
I found this to be not only disturbing, but also very collective. Even though Edward was the only one out of the Cullen family to truly love Bella, his family stayed by his side. It wasn’t normal for a vampire to fall in love with a human, but the Cullens were able to respect that. They even went as far as to fighting for Bella, and risking themselves to keep her safe. I think it really shows devotion and gratitude from the Cullen family. It relates to everyday life because I know if I was in crisis, my family would look out for me. I would share the same feeling of relief that Bella feels when she is endangered, but watched over by the Cullens.

I think it really shows devotion and gratitude from the Cullen family. It relates to everyday life because I know if I was in crisis, my family would look out for me. I would share the same feeling of relief that Bella feels when she is endangered, but watched over by the Cullens.

Bella and Edward's relationship is advanced throughout the book. They have moved on from just talking in chemistry class to talking outside of school. They recently went on their "first date". Infact it wasn't even planned, but the day played out so that it was Bella and Edward eating dinner together at a restaurant.
The day started out a normal day at school. Bella and Edward were talking everyday getting to know each other in Chemistry class. (Ha I think that is funny because it's chemistry). That day after school Bella had plans to go dress shopping with Jessica and two other girl friends. While Jessica and the two other girls tried on their dresses, Bella became disinterested and told them she would be back in a bit. She decided to walk around the town and popped into a book store. As soon as the book titles became boring, she left and just kept walking down the streets looking in the different shop windows. Little did she notice that she was lost. Luckily for her, Edward's vampire senses were to good use, because he was driving by just in time to save Bella from three older guys. The guys were chasing Bella down the street, but Edward's slick silver car stopped right next to her with the door open, welcoming her to safety. She wasn't surprised to see Edward because ever since the first day of school he had been keeping an eye on her, making sure she didn't hurt herself anymore.
After Edward picked her up, he took her out to dinner, and payed for it just as a gentlemen would. It was their first date. She had raviolli and he just sat across from her watching her contently. They knew they had a future the way they both got so excited to see or talk to each other.

The theme of trusting has been put across in most of the book so far. Edward finally decides to come clean about him being a vampire. He tells Bella up front that his whole family is vampires and that she should be somewhat frightened. However, Bella is not scared at all. In fact this intrigues her, and she finds herself happily amused. Bella's reaction on the other hand doesn't make Edward happy. He knows he will be able to trust her with all of her secrets now, but he is afraid for her dedication to him. He understands that she loves him. This saddens him because if it weren’t for his self control, she would otherwise die. The reason for this is because to him, she smells delicious and enchanting. He has never smelt anyone like her and knows he must keep her safe, because he too in return, loves her. Now they must trust each other to keep themselves together. Because of Edward’s secret and Bella’s delicate mortality they have to revolve their lives around the safety of the other.
Trusting someone can be a hard thing to do, especially for Edward because his secret is significant and shouldn’t have even been said to Bella. His life in Forks depends on Bella’s trust, being that if any other human found out about his family’s secret they would have to relocate somewhere far away. They would also have to start their lives all over again, and he wouldn’t be able to live with Bella. Trust is an important thing that is fragile and hard to give away. Yet Edward granted his trust in Bella.

Dear Edward,
I don't know why you aren't able to trust me. I just want you to know that I am a good friend who is willing to listen. I don't know what you're going through, but I do know that it is always better to let out your feelings. You should know that I'm not a mean person who likes to gossip and spill secrets, therefore you can tell me anything. I understand that you're not normal because of the recent events. Firstly, I wasn't the only one in the parking lot who saw you move that fast to save me from being crushed by Tyler's car. People have asked me questions pertaining to that. They’ve asked did you see that too. Or how come Edward didn’t get crushed, what happened when the car came? I haven’t told anyone anything but I know you’re hiding something. Also because, secondly I have found out that the people you sit with everyday at lunch are your siblings and all of you are much different than everyone else in the whole city. You guys glow, and have this presence that I can’t describe. You basically blow everyone away with your beauty. I just want to be a good friend and I hope you really understand that. I would like to get to know you, so I can understand what you’re going through. I do have a few guesses as to what you really are, but I would prefer if you just came out and told me.
Your friend,
Bella

The book I'm reading is called Twilight written by Stephenie Meyer. So far it is about a girl named Bella who recently moved from Phoenix to Grand Forks. She is a new girl at her school and doesn't know anyone yet. As she walks into school the first day, a guy named Mike greets her, knowing she is a fresh face. Mike is not the guy who sparks her interest that day. At lunch, across the cafeteria, is a whole table of pale beautiful people. One of them catches her eye. It is Edward Cullen. Although she finds him amazing, she realizes when will she ever talk to him. Luckily, her next class was Chemistry, and who other was in her class but Edward. Another thing is that she sat right next to him. For Bella, her first day went alright in the new school.
I am able to relate to going to a new school, because this year is my first year in the high school. Last year I knew everyone in my grade and almost everyone at my school, but this year, transitioning, I only know about a sixth of the school. Then again when I walked into my classes the first day of school, I didn’t know many people in my class. The thing Bella and I have in common is that we both didn’t have any of our good friends in our classes, but we were able to make new friends. Even though she knew absolutely no one, in the same way, I basically didn’t know anyone in some of my classes. Being that I knew who they were but I had never talked to them or got to know them.
